Beach-goers found Jimmy dumped on a Gisborne, New Zealand beach in February 2018. Gisborne SPCA spokespeople said his injuries were some of the worst they had seen. However, his loving temperament and determination to live shone through. Even as the team stitched his eyelid closed, Jimmy managed a weak wag of his tail. No one was ever able to find his abusers and bring them to justice, but within six months, Jimmy was living a new life in Wellington, with owners who treated him with respect and care.

Jimmy is also the name of a small Terrier-like dog actor, although no one knows a lot about him. He appeared in Adam & Steve as Bert in 2005, Spot in The Dog Problem a year later in 2006, and Adonis in 2013. He has also had several uncredited roles in movies like Year of the Dog.
