Introduction
Comedy Movie Dog Names In Pop Culture
Interestingly enough, Air Bud actually got his start on America's Funniest Home Videos when his owner, Kevin DiCicco featured him on the show. Air Bud's renown increased when he made another appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, where Buddy bounced a basketball on his muzzle before shooting the ball into a hoop on live TV. Buddy had so thoroughly wowed audiences and endeared himself to the American populace that Mr. DiCicco felt the dog had a real shot at stardom. Buddy made appeared on the family Sitcom Full House in a small role as the dog Comet before finally being cast by Walt Disney in his biggest and most famous role as the leading dog in his more or less self titled film, 1997's Air Bud.
The events of the film are loosely based off of Bud's actual encounter with Kevin CiCicco, but most of the story's plot does veer off into more extravagant fare; Mr. Diccico found Buddy as a stray in the 1980's and that much is reflected when one of the characters in Air Bud, Josh Framm, finds Air Bud after he's been abandoned by an abusive owner. Josh, like Kevin, names the dog Bud and discovers his furry friend's proficiency with a basketball very early on. The rest of the film's plot then enters more fantastical territory, including an instance during the final act in which Bud helps Joshua's basketball team win their State Finals game, but the mission of introducing the hoop shooting Golden Retriever to the world at large had been accomplished. Buddy passed on February 10, 1998 but his litter of nine pups would go on to partially inspire the Air Buddies spin off series, which is centered around Air Bud's on screen children.
Comedy Movie Dog Names in Pop Culture
Comedy films have also provided Cinema with some of the most memorable and enchanting characters to have ever graced the big screen; Charlie Chaplin's notorious Tramp character has become a staple of Cinematic history while the Wolfpack from the Hangover trilogy have also left their Mike Tyson tattoo shaped mark on film in their own right. The actors that bring these characters to life are also prime sources for comedy film loving dog owners to pool names from; Kevin Hart has made a name for himself as one of the hardest working comedians in show business while Tina Fey has proven herself to be a prolific artist both in front of and behind the scenes.
