Introduction
Colony Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Willie was a Labrador Retriever who saved his furever friend, John Stenglein, who was six years old at the time, from an attack by a wolf. On April 26, 2000, John and one of his human friends were playing by a logging camp in Icy Bay, Alaska when a gray wolf came out of the woods and started chasing the boys. When John tripped over a log and fell, the wolf grabbed him by the leg and dragged him toward the woods.
According to John and other witnesses, he was playing with his friend Keith Thompson, who was nine years old at the time, and Keith’s dog, Willie, at about nine in the morning when the boys heard a strange noise and looked up to see a large wolf staring at them. The wolf was about three meters away, and when it showed its teeth and growled at them, they froze. However, when the wolf growled again and took a step towards them, the boys took off running.
John was having trouble running because the boots he was wearing were too big for him and after a few steps, he tripped and fell. Keith’s dog, Willie, confronted the wolf and they briefly got into a fight, but the wolf ran away from Willie to grab the boy and try to take him into the forest. The wolf was having trouble carrying John because of his baggy clothes, so that slowed him down enough for Willie to get to him and start biting at the wolf’s legs.
Hearing the boys yelling, several adults came to the clearing and saw what was going on. They all started yelling and throwing rocks at the wolf, but it would not let the boy go. Willie continued his attack and finally got between the wolf and John so that one of the adults could grab the boy and get him away from there. Soon afterward, Keith and John’s fathers followed Willie into the woods to find the wolf and get rid of it so it would not hurt anyone else.
The wolves in that area do not typically attack humans, and there was no shortage of food, so they tested the wolf for diseases to see if it had rabies or distemper, but it did not. It is still unknown why the wolf decided to go after the boys, but experts in the area believe it was because the wolves in that section of Alaska were used to seeing humans and had been fed by them before. John was treated for several animal bites and released the same day, and Willie was unhurt, but he was pawsitively the hero of the day.
Colony Inspired Dog Name Considerations
For those of you getting a new pooch, there are some extra things you will need to ensure that your canine kid is happy and healthy with you. For example, your pupster will need a nice cozy doggy bed to sleep in, some fun toys to play with, a leash and collar for taking walks, yummy treats and healthy kibble, crunchy bones for keeping their teeth healthy, a vet to keep the rest of them healthy, and a name that fits them perfectly. Choosing a moniker for your doggo does not have to be a major pain, though. You can probably figure out a great name for them just by watching them for a while and learning their personality.
If you are wanting a moniker that is related to “Colony,” there are quite a few pawesome picks in the character and actor list. For instance, Meta, which means pearl in Greek, would be great for a white dog, Paul means humble in Latin so it would make a cute name for a petite pooch, and Rose is furific for a red pooch. You could also go with an alien or space-related name such as Comet, Venus, Astro, Jupiter, Halo, or Saturn. Here are more of our favorites.
