Cliff the Blue Heeler and Rottweiler mix dog probably should have been named Lucky because this pooch got lucky. In fact, if he could play the lottery, he would probably win. Nobody knows what happened on that day in May 2016 or how Cliff ended up on the side of a cliff. But he was certainly lucky to be found when he was.

Chances are pretty good that Cliff would not have lived much longer had he not been spotted on the side of a cliff by a person who was rafting down the river below. They called 911 and told the operator that a dog was stranded about 30 feet down a 100-foot cliff.

The police rescue group took a marine patrol boat up the river and spotted the dog, noticing that he was unable to climb up or down because it was a very slippery and steep embankment. Some of the deputies climbed the dangerous terrain to save the pup and brought him down the riverbank and into the boat.

The furbaby was in good condition and had no visible injuries, but they took him to a local veterinary hospital to make sure. The officers even took the time to go door to door in the area of Clackamas County, Oregon around Highway 224 by Barton Park and Carver asking if anyone was missing a dog. However, they were not able to locate the owners.

After a couple of weeks of looking for the owner and putting an ad in the paper, the deputies at the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department put the lucky dog up for adoption. A lovely couple, Reggie and Mikayla saw the story about Cliff and decided he would be a pawfect addition to their family, so they adopted him and took him home.

Apparently, dogs getting stuck on cliffs is pretty common. On January 20, 2019, a dog named Duck was spotted by some hang gliders on the side of a cliff at Fort Funston in San Francisco. The small Chihuahua mix was reported lost the previous day by his owner who was happy to get him home safe. Another lucky pup, Mary, was rescued after being stuck on a cliff in Provo, Utah in January of 2017. The rescuers had to coax the silly pup with treats and food to get her to come to them, but she made it home safe and sound. It is unclear how Mary ended up there, though.
