Chinese Chongqing Dog Names

Porcelain figurines are popular items in many people's homes. One of the most favored porcelain items shipped from factories in China is the Dalmatian figurine. We think this porcelain dog is in demand because of the tenacity and determination of the Dalmatian, known for their bravery. The Chinese Chongqing Dog is also a steadfast protector and although there are no dogs of this type in pop culture, there is a Dalmatian that everyone knows, and that is Pongo. Interestingly, in the Oxford dictionary, Pongo translates to soldier - a fitting description for both the Chinese Chongqing Dog and the Dalmatian.

If you like dogs of any kind then you have probably seen or heard of the “101 Dalmatians” book, movie, and television series, which starred Pongo as the Dalmatian father of 97 puppies (most of them adopted). The book was written back in 1956 by Dodie Smith, the children’s cartoon movie was made in 1961 by Walt Disney and then remade in 1996 as a live action movie. The television series was also created by Disney and came out in 1997 and lasted through two seasons. 

The story was written about Pongo and Missis (Pongo’s mate) who live with the Dearlys and their nannies when Missis gives birth to 15 pups. Mrs. Dearly looks for a canine wet nurse to help Missis feed them all and ends up finding a lost dog that has recently given birth but finds out her pups were stolen from her. They name her Perdita, which means lost and she tells Pongo all about her pups that were stolen by a woman named Cruella de Vil who wants their fur to make a new fur coat. 

Cruella finds out about the Dearly pups and tries to convince the Dearlys to sell them all to her, but they refuse, only to find that the pups are stolen the next day. Of course, Pongo, Perdita, and Missis know that Cruella took the pups and try to tell the Dearlys but they don’t speak dog, so they don’t understand. That leaves the dogs to get the pups back from Cruella before she does what she has to do to get the pup’s fur coats. 

They find the pups at a place they call Hell Hall with a bunch of other Dalmatians, adding up to 97 pups including Pongo’s 15. After getting the pups, they realize that Cruella is chasing them, so they go to a chimney sweep’s business and roll in the soot to look like black Labradors. This is Pongo’s idea after he accidentally falls in the soot and gets all dirty.

The pooches all follow Pongo and Missis back to their home where they just know that the Dearlys will adopt all the pups. When they all get back to the Dearlys, they decide to move into a bigger home because they want to keep all the pups as well as the three adults, leaving them with 100 dogs. Later, Perdita’s mate returns, making their total of 101 Dalmatians.
