Introduction
An autonomous community in Spain, Catalonia is located on the northwestern corner of the Iberian Peninsula. Catalonia includes four provinces which are Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona and has three official languages: Catalan, Spanish and Occitan. The climate of Catalonia is diverse, as is its geography; the community includes 360 miles of coastline along with the Pyrenees, which are a mountainous formation that links the Iberian Peninsula with the European continental territory. In addition to geographic and climate diversity, Catalonia is also home to a variety of possible names, one of which may be perfect for your pup.
Catalonia Dog Names in Pop Culture
Sergio Dalma is a singer from Catalonia. His albums are best sellers with some reaching platinum status. Sergio is also the name of a dog who earned hero status after he fought off attackers who beat his owner while trying to steal him. A one-year-old Shar-pei, Sergio was out for a walk with his person, Deborah Carter when two men approached them. Carter was punched in the face and the men then tried to steal the dog. The Manchester Evening News reported that the two men had passed Deborah and Sergio in an alleyway, with one of the men saying, “we’ll have him”.
Sergio, however, was having none of this. After his owner was punched in the face, he turned on the attackers, who then ran away. Deborah’s husband had purchased the dog for her as a puppy as a way to celebrate her surviving breast cancer as well as keep her company during her recovery. She named the puppy after the Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero and her hero dog has been her constant companion since the attack. Out of fear that they would be successful in taking Sergio, Carter wrapped his leash around her hand before he jumped at the two men, which led to her sustaining a broken thumb and sprained wrist. She also wound up with a split upper and lower lip and a black eye.
According to Carter, “It all happened so quick, but the police have said the men might have been trying to take him to sell or train for fighting. I was more worried about them taking him than anything - they could have hurt him.” Carter explained that once Sergio fought back, the two men ran off pretty quickly. Now, Sergio follows Carter upstairs and is always by her side.
Pedro is the name of a former Spanish Formula One driver from Catalonia. Pedro is also the name of a pup who survived Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. He and another dog were found near a trash heap where the carcasses of four dogs were found. A two-year-old Pug Terrier mix, he was timid and underweight. Fortunately, he was rescued and found a home in Park Slope in Brooklyn and has gained weight and become comfortable with his new life.
Catalonia Dog Name Considerations
Don’t panic if you are struggling to choose a name for your pup. This is not unusual. It is understandable why making a decision is difficult; after all, you will be calling the name that you decide on many times a day for years to come. Once you have an idea of what is important to you in a name (originality, fit, meaning, for example), you are ready to begin (or continue) your search.
A way to go about finding a name that has meaning to you, is to think about a place that you care about. Take Catalonia, for example. The autonomous community of Catalonia has much to offer those that reside there or that visit. Not only are the geography and climate of the area diverse, but there are also plenty of unique name ideas, one of which may be just right for your new pal. For example, sports fans can choose to name their male dog Fernando, after Fernando Navarro, a retired soccer player or Mireia Belmonte Garcia, a swimming Olympic medalist. With a name from Catalonia, each time you call your pup you will be reminded of this beautiful place.
