Cat Names that Start with V

Vito is a feline Internet celebrity with more than 35,000 combined followers on Instagram and Facebook. Also called Vituzzo by family and friends, he looks like any normal cat—until you see his hind legs. The orange tabby, who lives in Milan with his moms Silvia and Linda, is actually Italy’s first bionic cat!

Vito was originally cared for by Silvia’s parents, who found him in the small seaside town of San Vito Lo Capo when he was only a kitten. After Silvia’s mother passed away and her father married a woman who was allergic to cats, Silvia and Linda adopted Vito. The cat from the small town had no trouble adjusting to life in the big city, even becoming the boss of his Milanese neighborhood! 

Life would change for Vito in 2018, however, when he was hit by a car one December evening. His moms, who were thousands of miles away on their honeymoon at the time, cut their trip short and quickly flew back home. Vito lost both of his back paws due to the severity of his injuries. Cats in similar situations would usually be put down, but Linda and Silvia found a vet who gave Vito new legs—and a second chance at life. 

Unlike human prosthetics that are strapped on, Vito’s titanium alloy legs are inserted directly into his bones. Vito was the first cat in Italy to successfully receive implant prosthetics, and though it was difficult to get used to at first, he eventually got the hang of his new legs. The nine-year-old tabby’s social media is regularly updated with posts of him exploring outside, hanging out at home, and doing cat things. 

Another bionic feline whose name starts with V is Vincent, a domestic shorthair cat from Iowa. The brown and gray tabby made waves on the Internet in late 2015 after he received his prosthetic legs at Iowa State University. A video of him walking around an exam room at the university’s Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center has been viewed more than a million times. 

Vincent was adopted from the Story County Animal Shelter, where he was brought as a kitten by someone who found him at a campground. It’s not clear why the lower halves of hind legs were missing, but like Vito, Vincent has titanium alloy legs that are attached directly to his bones. There hasn’t been any update on the resilient tabby since his viral video, but hopefully he’s been living his best life!
