Rocky

The word “rocky” can have a number of meanings, such as a description of an area filled with boulders and craggy peaks, or a rough patch in a relationship. But arguably, the image that comes to mind most often is of the Sylvester Stallone title character in the movie Rocky.

Rocky Balboa is a mediocre Philly boxer who, through pure luck, is given the chance to take on Apollo Creed, the reigning world champion. No one really believes he can defeat Creed except his trainer, who teaches him all the tricks he has up his sleeve and instills in him the strong will to succeed. He also meets Adrian, the shy, quiet sister of a friend, their relationship quietly blossoms, and she becomes his most passionate cheerleader and source of comfort and strength.

As Rocky’s training becomes more and more intense, concluding with the powerful scene of him running at full speed up the many steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, he begins to think he has a chance to vanquish Creed.

Rocky Balboa is an example of how hard work and a belief in yourself can help to reach seemingly impossible goals, such as jumping to the top of that tall refrigerator! Persistence and keeping your eyes on the prize are the lessons learned here.
