Casablanca Dog Names

By all accounts, Richard 'Rick' Blaine, is not a traditional hero. He is cynical, wary and emotionally closed off. He does not form any bonds and claims that he has no romantic or political ties. He does what he wants, when he wants and drinks like a fish while doing so. Although he would like the rest of the world to see him as a cold-hearted degenerate, he cannot hide his good qualities even though he is deeply hurt by something that happened in the past. He is generous and kind, helping those in need with his influence in the underground community he has joined. 

No-one sees past his hard-hearted exterior more than his employees, who know who Rick really is. His bartender, Sacha, and his waiter, Carl, know how kind he can really be. They have both seen how Rick has helped many people over the years and trust him to rise above the apathy he has allowed himself to sink into. While Carl is the more upbeat of the two, Sacha is playful and nosy. In fact, he is a delight whenever he steps on to the screen. He also shares Rick's cynicism, which hints at a deep backstory that we never get to see.

Sasha the dog was different. She was not cynical and did not hide from danger. In fact, she bravely gave her life in service to the greater good. Sasha was a bomb detection dog who served the British Army. The beautiful Golden Retriever was first given to handler Marianne Hay, who gave Sasha up because they had gotten too close to each other. Sasha was a playful dog who used her nose to help countless troops get to safety. She was one of the best dogs on the base and one of the most popular ones too.

Instead of hiding from the war, like Sacha, she went out there and did her very best. Her efforts may have ended in death, but she was awarded a Dickin medal for her bravery in the face of defeat. When she and her handler were ambushed, she tried her level best to get them out of that situation. This was recognized by everyone who was involved which is why she received the highest honor a dog could get. Her remains were brought back to Marianne Hay, who keeps Sasha in her memory. Thankfully, this Sasha was not hindered by cynicism.
