Lockjaw

Lockjaw is the family pet of the House of Ago, better known to most as the Inhumans, and has a host of supernatural characteristics to boot. However what makes Lockjaw our spotlight dog for this article isn't his relationship with the Royal Family, but rather his bond with the Marvel family. For those of you who don't know, Lockjaw, the Bulldog-type character, has the unique ability to teleport himself and a number of others across vast distances at will. True to his name, Lockjaw also possesses an immense amount of strength in his jaws and has even been shown to be able to give characters like the Fantastic Four's very own human wrecking ball, the Thing, a run for his money.

Lockjaw's ties with the Marvel family come by virtue of his relationship with Kamala Khan; you see, Kamala's unique abilities are actually the result of her heritage as a member of the Inhuman race. Kamala wasn't initially aware of her heritage until a device known as a Terrigen Bomb was activated, causing her latent powers to begin developing. Kamala is capable of stretching and altering her body to become extraordinarily large and much stronger than the average person. Kamala can also heal very quickly and can alter her appearance drastically, effectively allowing her to mimic inanimate objects and the like.

All of these incredible abilities eventually attracted the attention of the Royal Family's matriarch, Medusalith Amaquelin (better known to humans as Medusa.) Medusa sent Lockjaw to watch after Kamala and keep her safe until the Royal Family could personally get in contact with Kamala and help her refine her own abilities. After a while, Kamala had attracted the attention of the superhero community at large, including the likes of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and eventually Captain Marvel herself. Kamala took up Carol Danvers' old mantle Ms. Marvel and swore to protect New Jersey with her newfound powers.

Speaking of the Fantastic Four, Lockjaw's very own puppy, aptly named Puppy, has been adopted by Franklin Richards (the son of Reed Richards and Susan Storm-Richard.) Puppy has abilities similar to his father, such as teleporting and tracking others across interdimensional plains. However, Puppy's abilities are much less refined than Lockjaw's since the young dog is still growing and becoming accustomed to life as a superpowered, crime fighting canine. Puppy hasn't made too many appearances in the Marvel Universe, but if the Inhumans make a come back then Puppy may very well show up then.

Why give your dog a Captain Marvel inspired name? Well for starters, the character's name straight up references Marvel Comics. While character was never expressly created (by Stan Lee and Gene Colan) to serve as a mascot for the company, one can't help but suspect that he was created to serve as a response to the growing popularity of DC's very own Man of Steel, Superman, due to the number of similarities between the two characters; both are aliens from outer space who can fly and are ridiculously strong and both heroes also have alter egos that they use in order to blend in with everyone else.
