Brunei Dog Names In Pop Culture
A well-known television personality in Brunei is Paula Malai Ali. Famous on the stage, radio and television, Paula also represented Redken hair products. Paula is also the name of a stray Chihuahua that received media attention after she was brought into the ASPCA Adoption Center after being found wandering the streets of Manhattan. The kind person who found the pup, who was around two years old at the time, wanted to keep her, but was unable to do so. Weighing in at around nine pounds, Paula was in good health and was found by those at the Adoption Center to be sweet and affectionate. A little over a month later, Paula was discovered by a potential adopter. Rafael S. and his wife had lost a loved pet and had decided that they were ready to adopt another pup. With three small dogs at home, they toured the Adoption Center to see who could be a fit for their family. When they met Paula, they were immediately taken by her. They decided to adopt her and bring her home. Along with her new home and family, Paula got a new name…”Jenny”. Coincidentally Paula Malai Ali has a twin sister named Jenny!
According to Rafael it did not take long for her to settle in and she formed a particularly strong connection with her new mom. Rafael was surprised, stating, “we were very surprised to see how fast she adjusted to us and to her new home. It’s like she knew that she belonged with us”.
Another pup named Paula, an autism service dog, received some attention after being featured in a blog post by her human parent. Paula is the service dog for Kyle, an eight year old boy with severe/classic/nonverbal autism. The pup’s human parent had filled out a packet from the organization Guiding Eyes for The Blind, who has placed service dogs with individuals who are blind and began placing autism services dogs with families through a program called “Heeling Autism” in 2006.
Kyle and his family were matched with Paula in May of 2010. Since coming home to her new family, Paula has been hard at work. Her main task is to walk with Kyle. She wears a special vest and knows that when she is wearing her vest that she is working. When walking with Kyle, she wears her vest and Kyle wears a special belt around his waist. He is connected to Paula by a strap that is about 2-4 feet in length. This allows Kyle and Paula to walk together, as opposed to his always having to hold one of his parents’ hands, which gives him more independence. This also helps keep Kyle safe. If he goes to bolt, his parent will tell Paula to “wait!” and she will freeze and lock up, which will ensure that Kyle can’t go anywhere. Paula also helps Kyle navigate stairs. Without Paula, he would stop with each step and get distracted. Paula is a huge help to Kyle during a meltdown or when he can’t sit still. Once attached to Paula, with a favorite show on the television, Kyle is able to calm down. Paula has also been a huge help in Kyle being able to sit still.
According to Kyle’s parents, getting Paula has been the best decision that they have made for Kyle.
