Introduction
The Braque Francais Pyrenean or French Pointer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog that was bred to hunt in the rugged and arid Pyrenees Mountains that border Spain and France. There are two recognized Braque Francais breeds. The Pyrenean variety is smaller than the Gascony variety. This is an ancient breed that is not well-known outside of the Pyrenees Mountain region and is considered a rare breed in the United States. However, the Braque Francais Pyrenean is believed to be the ancestor of all short-haired pointing breeds that are in existence today. The Braque Francais Pyrenean makes an excellent family companion that loves water, is easy to train and gentle with everyone.
Braque Francais Pyrenean Dog Names In Pop Culture
Since the Braque Francais Pyrenean is a rare breed within the United States and Canada, there are not many that make the news or are recognizable. Most people would probably not be able to properly identify the breed much less recall an important dog that is a Braque Francais Pyrenean. However, avid hunters and hunting dog enthusiasts may be able to recognize Ace, or Champion Legacy de L’Apron du Diable. Ace is an accomplished hunting dog that has earned his NAVHDA-N.A. Prize I title. The North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) offers hunting trials and titles for dogs that successfully participated within the trials. Ace won the N.A. or Natural Ability title. This test was designed to evaluate a gun dog’s natural hunting ability. The test rates seven inherited abilities of a gun dog. Those abilities include water, pointing, tracking, nose, search, cooperation, and desire. The NAVHDA’s Natural Ability title is only eligible for dogs that are under 16 months of age. Aside from working in the field, Ace also has excelled in the conformation ring by earning his United Kennel Club (UKC) championship and has also earned several group four placements within the Gun Dog Group at UKC events. Ace was imported into Canada from France and is registered with the Societe Centrale Canine (SCC), the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), the UKC, and the NAVHDA. Megan Price of Safron Kennels in Ontario, Canada purchased Ace as a young pup and had him imported in to add to her Braque Francais Pyrenean bloodlines. Safron Kennels is dedicated to promoting the Braque Francais Pyrenean within Canada and teaching the general public about this unique, friendly medium-sized bundle of energy. The Braque Francais Pyrenean is a wonderful breed for a family provided they are given ample exercise and just like with any dog, are properly trained.
Great Lakes Gun Dogs located in Hudsonville, Michigan also have found a deep love and appreciation for the Braque Francais Pyrenean. Keith and Bridgette Leyendecker’s Braque Francais Pyrenean named Piper, earned her NAVHDA N.A. Prize I title with a perfect score of 112. Piper has excelled at hunting prairie grouse, pheasant, ruffed grouse, woodcock, and sharped-tail grouse. When in the field, Piper stays alert on the job and has learned to point and retrieve birds. Piper is extremely affectionate and calm when at home after spending time in the field. She is a rising star at Great Lakes Gun Dogs where Keith and Bridgette are focused on promoting the Braque Francais Pyrenean to the general public as not just excellent hunting dogs, but also excellent companions.
Braque Francais Pyrenean Dog Name Considerations
Since the Braque Francais Pyrenean is a rare breed within the United States and Canada, it may be difficult to find a puppy or even an adult to add to your family. These French Pointers are happy, friendly, and easy to train making them an excellent choice for a family companion. When you do finally find a Braque Francais Pyrenean to bring home, if they do not already have a name, you will have to find a name that fits. Many people wait until they have had time to get to know their new puppy before deciding on a name. Being a French breed, you can start your search with names that have a strong French influence such as Emile, Toulouse, Henri, Chantal, or Monique. Make a list of some of the names that you like and then look for their meaning. Since the Braque Francais Pyrenean is a gun dog, a name that has a strong meaning might be a good place to start. Names such as Domino or Enzo mean rules the estate or household and Marcel means little warrior; all nice names with French influence and a strong meaning. Female Braque Francais Pyreneans are just as tenacious as their male counterparts when in the field and names such as Lulu and Eloise mean famous in war and would definitely be names that they could live up to when out hunting.
