Introduction
Big Daddy Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
There are many pooches that share the name "Layla" across the world. Some of their antics can be found via a simple Google search. One dog in particular has a particularly heartwarming story. Layla the Pit Bull was left by her family at a shelter in New York City. Layla was left there - young, healthy, and no behavioral issues - because her family felt they had too many pets at the time. In fact, Layla was so well-behaved that she spent the bulk of her time with a two-year-old toddler and a seven-year-old. Bonded to these two children, when Layla was surrendered to the shelter, she fell into a depression. The only thing in which Layla showed any interest was a toy that had been left with Layla when she was surrendered at the shelter. The caregivers at the shelter believe that Layla was self-soothing with the stuffed toy. Layla's story has a happy ending, however. Layla is now in a foster home where she can interact with a family that loves her. Layla can often be found playing in the yard (with her stuffy, of course). She is a happy, healthy pooch despite her circumstances.
Another Layla is known as "Layla the Rehab Lab." Layla is a regular at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she works as a therapy dog to various patients. Just recently, Layla and her handler Christi were the featured actors in a Pedigree brand dog food commercial. Layla volunteers at the Medical Center regularly, and it is her penchant for working as a therapy dog that caused the Vanderbilt officials to recommend Layla to star in the commercial, which not only promoted the brand of dog food but also promoted the idea of dog therapy in hospital settings. Layla is known for playing ball with juvenile patients, and sometimes Layla simply lies on the bed and allows the patient to pet her. Often, this is all the therapy some patients need. While this Layla might not be dark and mysterious, she is a lady worthy of love and affection for her time spent with those in need.
Big Daddy Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Sandler purchased Meatball in 2000. Meatball and Sandler became fast friends. In fact, when Sandler married his spouse, then Janet Teton, Meatball served as the best man at Sandler's wedding. Meatball was all decked out in a tuxedo. He "carried" the couple's rings up the aisle. He also earned the status of "Guest of Honor" at the wedding. Unfortunately, Meatball only lived for four years, passing in 2004 as the result of a heart attack (something English Bulldogs might be prone to). Sandler paid homage to his friend by hosting a memorial service. (Meatball starred alongside Sandler in Little Nicky, a 2000 film.
Sandler soon brought home another English Bulldog; this furry friend was given the name Matzoball. Matzoball was adopted rather than purchased. Sandler is known for taking Matzoball along almost anywhere - even as a guest on the David Letterman night-time talk show! A fan of Big Daddy can find inspiration in the characters of the show as well as in the pups mentioned here. Peruse our list for ideas!
