The very popular comic strip called Footrot Flats was the creation of New Zealand cartoonist, Murray Ball. It enjoyed a long run from 1976 until 1994 in the newspapers; there were a series of books, and even a musical about it, as well as a movie made called Footrot Flats: The Dog's Tale. It was so popular there was even a theme park in Auckland named after it. The cartoon portrayed a Border Collie farm dog name Dog and highlighted his loyalty to his owner Wallace Cadwallader Footrot, known as Wal. Dog does have a really posh name given to him by Aunt Dolly, but it has never been divulged and Dog goes to great lengths to hide it.
