Introduction
Astro City Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
G-Dog is quite an interesting addition to the Astro City ensemble for many reasons that will soon become apparent, but one of the key factors that makes G-Dog so intriguing is the fact that the character is, in fact, two separate beings merged into one. You see, G-Dog may simply seem like an anthropomorphic Corgi with a penchant for yellow clothes, but they're actually the combined form of former petty criminal Andy Merton and his pet Corgi Hank. Andy and Hank are able to merge together due to a mystical amulet that Andy stole from an Astro City hero by the name of Stormhawk.
Initially baffled by his newfound ability to merge with his dog, Andy was reluctant to use the amulet for any other ends than to satisfy himself. But after Andy had put enough thought into the matter and realized that he and Hank had a chance to do things that were truly unprecedented for both man and dog-kind, Andy resolved to use he and Hank's newfound powers for good; as G-Dog, Andy and Hank can leap great distances and communicate with other animals while also using their super strength, super senses and claws to fight crime.
Besides G-Dog, Astro City is also the home of Rocket Dog. As their name implies, Rocket Dog is able to fly through the air at incredible speeds, leaving a trail of fire and smoke behind, in the very same fashion as a rocket. Rocket Dog isn't as prominent of some of the other characters featured in the comics, nor is Rocket Dog capable of speaking like G-Dog is, but that hasn't stopped fans of the series from dressing up as the character during events like Comic-Con or outright adopting a dog breed that heavily resembles Rocket Dog.
On the topic of Rocket Dog's breed, many fans are unable to come to a general consensus on the matter; a large majority of the Astro City fan base agrees that Rocket Dog is a Beagle; considering Rocket Dog's large, floppy ears, brown and white coat, and compact frame, it's hard to argue against that claim. On the other hand, many fans believe that Rocket Dog may be some sort of Beagle, Basset Hound mix. Whichever the case may be, fans of the character and of the Astro City comic book series may also want to consider the names Rocket, Rocky, or Rocko to pay homage to Rocket Dog.
Astro City Inspired Dog Name Considerations
Conversely, I also suggest that you name your dog after a character whose personality, physical traits, and even abilities match up with your dog's; do you own a Corgi or a Collie? Consider naming your dog after one of Astro City's newer heroes, G-Dog. Are you currently caring for a Beagle, or will you eventually find yourself caring for one in the near future? Consider naming that dog "Rocket" after Astro City's own Rocket Dog.
