Introduction
Astro Boy Inspired Dog Names In Pop Culture
As we mentioned before, Astro was built in the image of Dr. Umataro Tenma'slate son Tobio. But what we hadn't mentioned before was that Tobio also used to care for a dog that he named Jump. The boy and his dog were inseparable and the two developed a bond that couldn't be described as being anything less than familial. Tobio would take Jump along with him wherever he could as he treated his dog more like a younger sibling than a pet. But on the day that Tobio didn't take Jump with him, that'd be the day that the young boy would perish in a tragic car accident.
For years, Jump harbored a sense of guilt over the scenario; the way the dog saw it, Tobio passed away because he wasn't there to help him. Jump remained trapped in a malaise of guilt and remorse for a long time before he looked up one day and saw something that defied all logic and reason; Tobio seemingly flying through the air, looking as upbeat and cheerful as ever. Jump couldn't believe his eyes; overcome with a flood of emotions, the dog chased after the flying Tobio until he was finally able to catch up with him.
Jump was overjoyed to be reunited with his friend but when he jumped up to lick him, he realized that something was off; Tobio's skin felt cold and metallic to the touch and the boy who stood in front of him smelled of oils and machinery. It soon donned on Jump that the boy he just encountered wasn't his former friend, but was an android that looked just like him. Jump was crushed when he realized what was really going on, leading him to lash out at the confused Astro Boy when he tried to comfort the dog. Believing that Tobio was gone and would never come back, Jump rejected Astro (just as Dr. Tenma had) before running off in agony.
Astro was initially discouraged by this incident, but he nonetheless continued helping those all around him. Through his kind actions Astro showed that while he may not have been Tobio in the flesh, he was Tobio in spirit. Jump came to believe this as well and even reconciled with Astro, joining his family and accepting him for his heroic traits and kind heart.
Astro Boy Inspired Dog Name Considerations
The Astro Boy franchise also has no shortage of memorable characters that fans have come to revere over their years. These characters all tend to have unique names and personalities that could really help you figure out which character has traits that match your dog's; if you have a dog that you'd like to help work as a therapy dog, you should consider naming them Astro. Beyond battling malicious robots, Astro Boy uses his powers to help the residents of his hometown in their everyday lives.
