Introduction
Dolls are considered as the perfect toy for young kids, particularly girls. While they have a reputation for being cute and pretty, there are some dolls that can be memorable for all the wrong reasons. The best example of this is Annabelle, the haunted doll from The Conjuring Universe. Annabelle first made her appearance in the 2013 horror film The Conjuring. Because of her role in the film, a standalone movie was released the following year, entitled Annabelle, which serves as a prequel/spinoff to The Conjuring. The 2014 film explores the doll’s background and how it became possessed by an evil spirit and details what transpired before the events in The Conjuring.
Annabelle Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
The 2014 horror film Annabelle has gained somewhat of a following from fans of the genre. After all, who could forget this freaky-looking doll possessed by a demon? While Annabelle is almost synonymous to the horror film character nowadays, there was a moment in time when Annabelle was actually an angelic name, literally.
Annabelle is the name of the dog from the All Dogs go to Heaven film series. She is an archangel Whippet covered in pink fur. She also wears a pink ribbon in her hair and a purple necklace with a red heart on it. She made her debut appearance in the first film of the series, which was released in 1989. Here, she was simply known as Whippet Angel. In the sequel, entitled All Dogs go to Heaven 2, she was finally named Annabelle.
The film series follows the story of Charlie B. Barkin, a German Shepherd who was murdered by his former business partner and friend, Carface Caruthers. In the first film, when Charlie was struck by Carface with his automobile, he dies and enters heaven. Here, he meets the whippet angel who tells him that, by default, all dogs go to heaven because of their loyal and kind nature. She also presents Charlie with a “life clock” and tells him not to wind it under any circumstances. However, still angry and wanting vengeance for his death, Charlie does not listen to the angel. He momentarily distracts her and takes the clock to wind it back, which brings him back to Earth.
After returning to Earth alive, he opens the clock and hears Annabelle’s voice telling him that there is no turning back and, once he dies again, he will go to hell. Charlie ignores the warning and sets out to seek his revenge. One night, some time after he had returned to Earth, Charlie has a bad dream about going to hell and is reminded of Annabelle’s warning to him. Towards the end of the film, however, Charlie redeems himself by saving the life of Anne-Marie while on a ship that is burning. As he was about to go to hell, Annabelle shows up and lets Charlie into heaven because of the sacrifice he made.
In the sequel All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, Annabelle returns for her role as the Whippet Angel. In here, she is seen giving out Merit badges to dogs who have earned them. Carface, who has entered heaven and says he has changed, causes trouble by stealing Gabriel’s horn. Annabelle assigns Charlie to retrieve the horn and return to Earth. After being imprisoned by an evil dog named Red, Charlie was able to retrieve the horn and defeat Red with the help of Annabelle. Because of this act, Charlie receives a Merit badge and gets Annabelle’s permission to stay and live his life on Earth.
Annabelle Inspired Dog Name Considerations
When you are thinking about what to name your dog, it can sometimes be difficult to look for creative ideas and inspiration. Sometimes, the best way is to take samples from other famous pop culture works. Films, for example, have a plethora of great name ideas coming from various characters. For horror fans, you might want to choose a name from some of the scariest films of all time.
Annabelle is a great example of the more recent horror films that have introduced a memorable character. If you are a new dog owner who wants a name inspired by this scary film, you can choose a name from any of the movie cast and characters. You can name your dog after the freaky doll Annabelle if you wish or you can go for a more subtle choice such as Mia, the female lead in the film who helps fight off the evil spirit.
Just remember that naming your dog shouldn’t be on a whim; you need to consider some factors before making a final decision. One consideration is how common the name is. For instance, if you want to name your dog “John”, after the lead character in the film, you should think about how many Johns will probably look your way when you call out your dog’s name in the park.
