So when an all white dog with tremendous strength and speed, heat vision, super breath, and the gift of flight was discovered to have originated from the same planet as Superman and Supergirl, folks started calling him the Last Dog of Krypton in lieu of the Man and Woman of Steel respectively. Incidentally, it wouldn't be long before everyone would learn that Krypto shared a much more intricate connection with Superman than simply coming from the same planet.

After doing a bit of digging around, Superman discovered something that informed him of an old part of his family's history; he discovered that Krypto's pod had his family's crest on it - the very same "S-shield" that he wears on his chest. Delving further into the past, Superman learned that he and Krypto shared an incredibly intricate past back on Krypton. You see Krypto was actually the former pet of Jor-El, one of Krypton's greatest scientific minds and Superman's father.

By combing through the past, Superman discovered that he and Krypto actually spent a ton of time together... when the Man of Steel was an infant. Krypto was incredibly fond of the Baby of Steel and protected him like an older brother. When Jor-El discovered an anomaly that made him question the future of Krypton, he created a number of rockets that he and his family could use as escape pods. It's believed that Jor-El placed Krypto inside one of these rockets and set it on a course for Earth around the same time he sent his infantile son Kal-El away.

Unfortunately, Krypto's rocket was knocked off course by an asteroid and sent adrift in space for many years. Eventually, Krypto's pod would re-embark on its course, landing on Earth years later than it was meant to. When Krypto emerged from his pod, he was granted the same powers Superman is famous for due to drinking in the radiation of Earth's yellow sun. Before long, Krypto would reunite with Kal-El - now much older than he was when they last met and regarded as one of Earth's greatest heroes. Krypto would join the Action Ace in his quest for peace, fighting crime and saving lives as Krypto the Superdog.

Written by Grant Morrison and penciled by Frank Quitely, All-Star Superman received universal acclaim back when it was released in November of 2015.
