Advance Wars Dog Names

There are several standout characters in Advance Wars, with many of them sharing the same name as famous dogs in pop culture. We cover a couple of these below: Grimm and Jake.

Grimm is not an ordinary dog name, but it appears in both Advance Wars and pop culture in a comic strip that started in 1984, shot to fame, and still exists to this day. The comic strip is about a talking dog that Mother Goose owns - which explains the name of the comic strip: Mother Goose and Grimm. Each week, different gags and storylines that put smiles on the faces of all those who see them in 500 newspapers.

Grimm is a Bull Terrier, and Mike Peters from the Dayton Daily News is the man behind the famous comic strip. Mike received the 1991 Reuben Award from the National Cartoonist Society for his work, as well as a nomination for the Newspaper Comic Strip Award in 2000.

In 1991, Grimm became so popular that it started as an animated TV series. Charlie Sanford Brill, an American comedian, voice artist, and actor, played the voice of the yellow Bull Terrier Grimm.

In the Advance Wars world, Grimm is a daredevil who doesn’t care about planning, details, and defense. Instead, he is all about attacking and lowers his defense unintentionally as a result. Grimm appears in the first Advance Wars game known as Dual Strike.

Jake is another standout character both in Advance Wars and pop culture. In Advance Wars, he appears in Dual Strike and takes on a similar role to that of Andy who appeared in the first game version. You can play Jake’s character on Nintendo DS. Depending on which version you are playing - American or Japanese, he appears to have a different personality. He is silly and fun in the American version but not so much in the Japanese version.

Jake is also the name of a dog in the movie Puppy Love, a 2012 comedy drama. A single mother, Megan, uproots her daughter, Caitlin, to move to a new town, and adopts a dog from a shelter to keep her daughter company. Caitlin picks out the goofiest dog she could find, which turns out to be a ballplayer’s dog who lost him. Megan is unwilling to let Jake go, which starts Jake on the road to a joint custody battle.

Jake’s real name is BugZ, and even though he behaved and appeared in control in the movie, that wasn’t always the case. Owner and trainer Sarah adopted him from a family who could no longer have him. He was energetic and needed a lot of training. He had potential though, and Sarah turned him into a movie star dog.
