Introduction
A Goofy Movie Inspired Dogs In Pop Culture
Despite the fact that Goofy's name is all up in the title of A Goofy Movie, he's best described as being a secondary protagonist in this film - with his teenage son Max taking the lead and acting as the primary character of the movie. Hopefully that previous sentence didn't give the impression that Goofy doesn't play a pivotal role in this film - in fact, he's the one who really kickstarts the story when all's said and done - it's just that A Goofy Movie is largely about Max coming of age while Goofy learns to respect his growing son's needs.
It's actually Goofy's initially inability to understand Max, combined with Max's inability to effectively communicate with his father, that leads to the road trip in the first place; Goofy spontaneously takes Max on the trip in a bid to bond with his son as he feels that the two of them are drifting apart. Unbeknownst to Goofy, Max actually had a date planned with a girl (like a canine girl, not a human girl) named Roxanne. Goofy's spontaneous trip accidentally ruins Max's plans with Roxie, inadvertently creating a rift between the father and son.
The film then largely centers around Goofy and Max's adventures during the trip - during which they butt heads before ultimately coming to respect and understand one another. Confident that he and his son will always be close no matter how physically far apart they are, Goofy helps Max win over Roxanne during the film's climax; Mr. Goof takes his son to a concert that Roxanne's watching and performs an impromptu show with Max and the popular, Bobby Brown inspired musician Powerline. In the end, Max is able to get with Roxanne before introducing her to his goofy, yet loving Father.
